Elvish Skysweeper

Elvish Skysweeper was originally released as part of the Guildpact expansion for Magic: The Gathering in 2006. Set on the plane of Ravnica, a world dominated by sprawling urban landscapes, the card represents the Selesnya Conclave, one of the ten guilds characterized by a philosophy of communal growth and nature-based magic. It was later reprinted in the 2017 Commander Anthology, a curated collection designed to provide players with accessible, pre-constructed decks featuring popular cards from across the game's history.

The card was illustrated by Greg Staples, whose work often leans into moody, atmospheric depictions of fantasy creatures. His design for the Skysweeper captures the elven aesthetic of the Selesnya, focusing on a warrior tasked with defense against aerial threats. At the time of its debut, the card served as a functional utility piece in limited formats, valued for its ability to sacrifice excess board presence to provide reach against flying creatures, a common tactical necessity in the Ravnica block's complex mechanical environment.
