Where it came from
Emrakul's Influence was released in 2016 as part of the Eldritch Moon expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The card was designed to mechanically represent the pervasive, reality-warping presence of the Eldrazi titan Emrakul as she descended upon the plane of Innistrad. Within the game's lore, the card illustrates the corruptive effect the titan had on the world's creatures, encouraging players to deploy colorless Eldrazi spells to gain significant advantages.
The artwork was illustrated by Magali Villeneuve, a prominent artist known for her evocative and atmospheric depictions within the Magic universe. Villeneuve’s design captures the grotesque transformation of the local wildlife under Emrakul’s influence, utilizing a palette and style that emphasizes the body horror inherent to the Eldrazi invasion. Upon release, the card was received as a flavorful, synergy-focused rare that served as a thematic centerpiece for green-based Eldrazi decks in the Limited and Standard formats of the era.
