Where it came from
Eradicate was released in 2005 as part of the Betrayers of Kamigawa expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The set focused on the conflict between the mortal realm and the spirit world, drawing heavily from Japanese mythology and folklore. As a sorcery card, Eradicate was designed to reflect the set's themes of spiritual purging and permanent removal, offering players a way to exile a non-black creature and search the opponent's library for all other copies of that card to remove them as well.
The artwork for this card was created by illustrator Matt Cavotta, who contributed significantly to the visual identity of the Kamigawa block.
