Provenance

Where it came from

Evermind was originally released as a rare card in the 2005 Saviors of Kamigawa expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Set within the Japanese-inspired plane of Kamigawa, the card features the unique 'splice onto arcane' mechanic, which allowed players to augment their spells with additional effects. The design, illustrated by Pete Venters, reflects the ethereal and knowledge-seeking nature of the moonfolk, the primary race associated with this card's faction.

The card was included in 'The List', a rotating selection of reprints curated by Wizards of the Coast that are inserted into Set Boosters. By featuring it in this modern collection, the publishers brought a niche utility card from the mid-2000s to a new generation of players. Venters’ artwork remains a point of recognition for long-time fans, capturing the mystical aesthetic that defined the Kamigawa block during its debut.
