Faerie Fencing

Faerie Fencing was released in 2023 as part of the Wilds of Eldraine set for Magic: The Gathering. The card draws heavily from the set's central design philosophy, which reimagines classic fairy tales through a whimsical yet slightly dark lens. Mechanically, the card serves as a thematic piece of removal, playing into the set's focus on Faerie tribal synergies and the 'bargain' mechanic that encourages players to sacrifice artifacts, enchantments, or tokens for more powerful effects.

The artwork for Faerie Fencing was illustrated by the artist Lie Setiawan, who utilized a delicate, ornate style to capture the mischievous and elegant nature of the Eldraine fae. The illustration highlights the sharp, blade-like wings common to the set's faerie creatures, aligning the visual design with the card's function as a combat trick. Upon its release, it was noted by players for its efficiency in Limited formats, where its scaling power based on the number of faeries controlled made it a staple utility spell.
