The card was crafted to support the blue artifact-centric theme of the Tezzeret deck, providing players with a utility creature capable of card selection through its enter-the-battlefield ability. This specific iteration sought to balance flavor with tactical deck thinning, emphasizing the mechanical, clockwork nature of the Faerie creatures associated with the Esper shard of the Alara setting.
