Where it came from
Faithless Looting is a quintessential card in the Magic: The Gathering ecosystem, first appearing as a common in the 2012 Dark Ascension expansion. Its design, illustrated by Wesley Burt, centers on the mechanical concept of card filtering, allowing players to draw and discard cards to optimize their hand. The card became a staple in eternal formats for its efficiency, particularly in graveyard-centric strategies, eventually leading to its widespread recognition as a cornerstone of modern competitive play.
The IDW Comics promotional version, featuring collector number 2, was released as an insert within the limited-run Magic: The Gathering comic series published by IDW Publishing beginning in 2012. These promotional cards utilized existing card mechanics but featured unique, serialized numbering and specific thematic tie-ins to the comic narrative. This release was aimed at bridging the gap between the game’s lore and its broader pop-culture presence, offering collectors a variant that functioned as a commemorative piece of the franchise's multimedia expansion.
