Provenance

Where it came from

Falkenrath Forebear was released as part of the Innistrad: Crimson Vow set in 2021, a gothic horror-themed expansion for Magic: The Gathering that centers on a vampire-themed wedding. The card was designed to support the vampire tribal mechanics prevalent in the set, specifically focusing on the recurring, resilient nature of the undead, and was distributed as a promotional version featuring unique set identification and foil treatments.

The illustration, created by artist Antonio José Manzanedo, captures the aristocratic yet predatory aesthetic typical of the Innistrad vampires. Manzanedo emphasized the dark, opulent sensibilities of the Falkenrath bloodline, aiming to convey both menace and nobility. Upon its release, the card was received by players as a functional utility creature that fits well into synergy-heavy vampire decks, prized for its thematic consistency with the plane of Innistrad.
