Provenance

Where it came from

Falter was originally released in the Urza's Saga expansion for Magic: The Gathering in 1998. It was designed as a strategic sorcery spell meant to force tactical combat by removing the ability of creatures to block for a single turn, fitting the set's emphasis on complex board states and resource management during the peak of the game's early growth.

The card features artwork by Christopher Rush, one of the most iconic illustrators in the game's history. His work on this piece captures a sense of chaotic, sudden collapse, visually reinforcing the card's function of breaking down defensive lines, and it has since been included in The List, a curated selection of cards from throughout the game's history inserted into modern booster packs to celebrate its long-standing legacy.
