Faramir, Field Commander // Faramir, Field Commander

Faramir, Field Commander was released in 2023 as part of the Magic: The Gathering 'The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth' Art Series. This specific line of cards was produced as a collectible set intended to highlight the visual interpretations of J.R.R. Tolkien's legendarium created for the collaboration between Wizards of the Coast and Middle-earth Enterprises. Unlike standard gameplay cards, these items are designed primarily as display pieces, featuring full-art illustrations without the usual game-related text blocks found on traditional Magic cards.

The artwork for this specific card was commissioned by Wizards of the Coast to reflect the gritty, tactical nature of Faramir's command in Gondor. Illustrators working on this set were tasked with balancing the established lore of the books with the high-fantasy aesthetic signature to the Magic: The Gathering brand. Upon release, the Art Series was well-received by fans of both the card game and Tolkien's work, largely because it provided a focused medium to appreciate the complex character designs and environmental storytelling developed for the set.
