Provenance

Where it came from

Fatespinner was originally printed in the 2003 Mirrodin expansion for Magic: The Gathering, designed by Wizards of the Coast to introduce the game's first artifact-focused block. The card was illustrated by Greg Staples, who utilized a dark, ethereal aesthetic to capture the essence of a Vedalken wizard manipulating time and probability. Within the lore of the plane of Mirrodin, the card reflects the influence of the Vedalken and their penchant for logical, often clinical, control over the environment.

The version from The List represents a modern reprint strategy employed by Wizards of the Coast to bring older, out-of-print cards back into circulation within contemporary booster packs. By including Fatespinner in The List, the designers maintained the original mechanical identity and art of the Mirrodin release while allowing newer players access to its unique turn-skipping ability. The card remains a niche but respected utility piece for Commander players who enjoy taxing opponents' strategic options.
