Where it came from
Fear of Sleep Paralysis was released in 2024 as part of the Duskmourn: House of Horror Commander set, a thematic expansion for Magic: The Gathering that centers on a plane-wide haunted house setting. The card draws heavily on 1980s and 1990s horror aesthetics, intended to evoke the psychological terror of modern folklore within the game's expansive multiverse.
The artwork for this card was crafted to visualize the helplessness associated with the titular condition, utilizing the set's distinct 'horror-house' visual language. It was received as a functional blue utility spell within the Commander format, noted by players for its thematic resonance and its role in providing reactive board control within the context of the set's unsettling, supernatural narrative.
