Where it came from
The Federation Outpost card was released in 1994 as part of the Premiere Edition of the Star Trek Customizable Card Game by Decipher, Inc. This set was designed to capture the expansive lore of The Next Generation era, providing players with the strategic components necessary to establish controlled sectors across the quadrant. The game emerged during a period of high popularity for the franchise, aiming to translate the diplomatic and tactical complexities of Starfleet operations into a collectible tabletop format.
The design of the card utilizes iconic production photography from the television series to maintain visual authenticity within the game environment. The card’s mechanics reflect the logistical focus of the Federation, requiring specific personnel and skill sets to operate effectively. Upon its release, the Premiere Edition was well-received by fans of both the show and the burgeoning trading card game market for its attention to detail and ability to facilitate immersive gameplay scenarios.
