Where it came from
Feed the Clan was released in 2014 as part of the Khans of Tarkir expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Set on the plane of Tarkir, the expansion explored a world defined by five distinct clans, each inspired by different historical Asian cultures and focused on particular combat styles. This green-aligned sorcery card was designed to mechanically represent the communal aspect of survival within the Temur Frontier, a clan characterized by their resilience and life in the harsh, icy mountains.
The card’s illustration was crafted by artist Nils Hamm, whose work often features an ethereal, organic quality that suits the primal themes of Magic’s green color pie. Hamm depicted a scene of members of the Temur clan sharing food, emphasizing themes of community and endurance. The card became a noteworthy inclusion in competitive formats due to its efficient life-gain capability, frequently serving as a defensive tool for decks attempting to stabilize against aggressive strategies.
