Feign Death was originally released in the Adventures in the Forgotten Realms set, a thematic crossover between Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons. Designed to capture the mechanics of the iconic role-playing spell, the card allows a creature to return from the graveyard to the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter if it dies within a single turn. It emerged during a period where Wizards of the Coast was actively integrating D&D lore into the core Magic ecosystem, aiming to provide players with flavor-rich utility spells that echoed classic tabletop gameplay.
