Feral Hydra

Feral Hydra was originally introduced in the Magic: The Gathering set Eventide in 2008. Designed as a rare green creature, it features an 'echo' mechanic that requires the player to pay an additional cost on the turn after it enters the battlefield, reflecting the card's theme of a wild, untamed beast that demands extra resources to maintain control over. The illustration by Raymond Swanland captures this essence through his signature style of sharp, dynamic motion and aggressive, high-contrast lighting.

The card was included in The List, a curated selection of cards from throughout the game's history that appear randomly in Set Boosters. By featuring reprints like the Feral Hydra, Wizards of the Coast sought to provide players with access to older, thematic cards while maintaining the historical context of the game's evolving mechanics. Upon its initial release, the card was regarded as a solid limited-play option that rewarded players for managing their mana curve efficiently.
