Where it came from
Fight or Flight was released in October 2000 as part of the Invasion expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. This set was centered on a narrative of interplanar conflict and featured multicolor cards as a primary design focus. Mechanically, the card represents the tactical theme of evasion and movement that defined much of the white color identity during that era of gameplay.
The card features artwork by the illustrator Brian Snoddy, whose distinct, painterly style was a staple of early Magic: The Gathering sets. In keeping with the high-fantasy aesthetic of the turn of the millennium, Snoddy’s depiction of the card's effect captures the chaos of combat, emphasizing a dynamic interaction between opposing forces. It remains a representative piece of the Invasion set's artistic and mechanical contributions to the game's expansive history.
