Where it came from
Flare of Fortitude, designated as card number 002 in the Stardates expansion, was released as part of a strategic push to introduce more thematic, narrative-driven mechanics into the card game’s ecosystem. The set was conceived during a period when the design team sought to emphasize character-based maneuvers, moving away from purely resource-focused play. The illustration, rendered in the distinctive, high-contrast aesthetic that defined the mid-era releases, was crafted to evoke a sense of urgent resolve, aligning with the card's function as a defensive pivot.
Upon its introduction, the card was received as a nuanced tactical tool. While it did not immediately dominate the competitive landscape, it gained a reputation among players who favored control-oriented strategies for its utility in mitigating late-game pressure. The design reflects an effort to balance mechanical complexity with thematic clarity, resulting in a piece that remains a recognizable staple of the Stardates collection for those who prioritize defensive adaptability.
