Flight of Fancy

Flight of Fancy was originally released in the Invasion expansion in 2000, later appearing as a reprint in the 2018 Ultimate Masters set. It serves as a classic example of an enchantment-based card advantage engine, designed to reward players for investing mana into an aura that replaces itself by drawing two cards upon entering the battlefield. The design reflects a staple mechanic of early Magic: The Gathering, where white cards were frequently granted utility effects to balance the color's inherent defensive nature.

The artwork for the Ultimate Masters printing is a striking illustration by Greg Staples, whose work often brings a painterly, atmospheric depth to fantasy gaming cards. Staples was tasked with reimagining the card's theme of ethereal movement and discovery, moving away from the more literal interpretations found in older sets to embrace a more abstract, graceful visual language. The card is generally regarded by the community as a functional niche piece, appreciated more for its specific role in limited environments than for competitive constructed play.
