Flood of Recollection

Flood of Recollection was released in early 2018 as part of the Rivals of Ixalan expansion for Magic: The Gathering. As a blue sorcery card, it fits into the set's broader theme of exploration and high-fantasy Mesoamerican-inspired aesthetics, reflecting the plane of Ixalan's focus on search, navigation, and magical discovery. The card was designed to offer players utility by allowing them to retrieve a sorcery or instant card from their graveyard, emphasizing the set's mechanics surrounding graveyard interaction and recursive spellcasting.

The artwork for the card was created by illustrator Deruchenko Alexander, who focused on ethereal, watery visual elements to match the card's name and mechanical function. The design sought to evoke a sense of mental clarity and magical recall, with the blue palette serving as a hallmark of the color's alignment with control and intellect in the game. Upon its release, it was well-received by limited-format players for its versatility, providing a reliable way to replay key spells during the strategic flow of a match.
