Fog Bank

Fog Bank was originally introduced to the Magic: The Gathering card game in the 1998 Weatherlight expansion, designed as an unconventional defensive creature. By rendering combat damage dealt to it as zero, it functions as a highly efficient stall piece for control-oriented players, effectively nullifying large attackers that lack trample or special abilities. Its inclusion in the Commander 2011 product line brought this defensive utility to the burgeoning multiplayer format, where protecting one’s life total against multiple opponents is a constant strategic requirement.

The art for the original Fog Bank was illustrated by Christopher Rush, who utilized a ethereal and shifting visual style to capture the card's defensive nature. The design reflects the mid-90s era of the game, where the developers often experimented with 'wall' mechanics that challenged traditional combat math. When reissued in the 2011 Commander sets, the card retained its original mechanical identity, remaining a staple for blue-based decks that prefer to avoid direct confrontation in favor of long-term board management.
