Foretell

Foretell is a core keyword mechanic introduced in the 2021 Magic: The Gathering expansion set, Kaldheim. The set draws heavy inspiration from Norse mythology and the icy, rugged aesthetic of the Viking Age. Within the game's mechanics, the Foretell keyword allowed players to exile cards face-down for a nominal mana cost, enabling them to be cast later for a discounted rate, which mirrored the thematic concept of prophetic foresight or destiny within the harsh conditions of the Kaldheim plane.

The art and design direction for the Kaldheim token and reminder cards were managed by the Wizards of the Coast art team, focusing on a stark, atmospheric visual language that emphasized runes, frost, and high-contrast lighting. As a functional card, the Foretell reminder card was designed to assist players in tracking the state of the board during gameplay.
