Freewind Equenaut

Freewind Equenaut was released in 2006 as part of the Dissension set, the final expansion in the Ravnica: City of Guilds block for Magic: The Gathering. The set focused on the three remaining guilds of the plane—the Azorius, the Rakdos, and the Simic—with the card itself representing the Azorius Senate, the law-giving authority of the city. Mechanically, it reflects the Azorius keyword ability 'forecast,' which allowed players to reveal cards from their hand to trigger specific effects, emphasizing the guild's focus on long-term strategy and foresight.

The card’s illustration was provided by Rebecca Guay, a long-time contributor to the game known for her distinct, ethereal, and often watercolor-influenced style. In this piece, Guay captures the soaring, orderly aesthetic associated with the Azorius, depicting a mounted messenger navigating the spires of the cityscape.
