Where it came from
Frontier Siege was released in 2015 as part of the Fate Reforged set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. It represents a significant narrative moment within the block, depicting the ongoing struggle between the dragon-worshipping clans and the emerging draconic overlords on the plane of Tarkir. The card functions as an enchantment that players must strategically pledge to one of two modes, either bolstering their defensive lines or facilitating aggressive creature deployment, reflecting the desperate military choices faced by the clans.
The artwork for this card was created by artist Daarken, known for his work across many sets within the game. His illustration captures the chaotic intensity of the battlefield, emphasizing the scale of the siege through a dark, high-contrast aesthetic that aligns with the grim tone of the Tarkir setting. The design was well-received by players for its tactical versatility, often cited in Commander and casual formats as a reliable tool for controlling the pace of a match.
