Where it came from
Frost Walker was originally released in the Fate Reforged expansion of Magic: The Gathering in early 2015, quickly becoming a notable common for its aggressive efficiency in blue-based tempo decks. The card features art by Igor Kieryluk, who depicted the elemental creature with a crystalline, jagged aesthetic intended to convey the harsh, icy environment of the Tarkir plane. The design emphasizes the 'glass cannon' archetype, providing high power for its mana cost while maintaining a significant vulnerability to any form of interaction.
The Friday Night Magic (FNM) promotional version, released later in 2015, features a distinct foil treatment and the signature expansion symbol associated with the FNM program. These promotional cards were distributed as prizes to participants at local game stores, serving as a tangible reward for community engagement. The FNM Frost Walker is particularly prized among collectors for its unique frame and the nostalgia surrounding the grassroots tournament culture that defined that era of the game.
