Future Sight

Future Sight was released in 2002 as part of the Onslaught expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The set was designed to emphasize creature types and tribal synergies, marking a shift in the game's mechanical focus toward permanent-based strategies. This card, an enchantment that allows players to play the top card of their library, fits into a long lineage of powerful library-manipulation spells that reward players for optimizing the composition of their decks.

The artwork was commissioned by Matt Cavotta, a long-time illustrator for Wizards of the Coast whose style is often characterized by a blend of surrealism and traditional fantasy sensibilities. Cavotta’s depiction focuses on a mystical, ethereal figure peering into a swirling arcane pool, visually translating the card's function—predicting and accessing the unknown future—into a static image.
