Where it came from
Galvanoth was released in 2011 as part of the Mirrodin Besieged expansion for Magic: The Gathering. Set on the metallic world of Mirrodin, the card reflects the conflict between the native inhabitants and the corrupting influence of the Phyrexians. As a member of the Loxodon species, the creature represents the desperate struggle of the Mirran resistance to utilize raw mana and artifact synergy to counter their mechanical invaders.
The card was illustrated by Dave Rapoza, who captured the creature in a dynamic, high-contrast style that emphasizes the jagged, industrial aesthetic of the setting.
