Where it came from
Garna, Bloodfist of Keld was released in 2022 as part of the Dominaria United expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The card represents a pivotal character in the game's long-running lore, specifically within the Keldon faction, depicting her as a powerful warrior-commander returning to her roots. This version of the card was designed to function as a commander-focused piece, emphasizing themes of sacrifice and aggressive combat that align with the Red-Black color identity.
The artwork for this particular iteration was created by illustrator Manuel Castañón. Drawing from the established visual language of the Keldons, the design captures the character's fierce, battle-hardened aesthetic while utilizing the expansion's thematic focus on the return to the plane of Dominaria. Upon its release, it was well-received by players who favor sacrifice-based strategies, as the card's mechanics offer a clear utility for drawing cards whenever creatures die in combat.
