Where it came from
Garruk the Slayer was released as part of the Magic 2015 core set prerelease events in 2014. It served as a specific reward for participants who completed the 'Garruk’s Revenge' challenge, a unique gameplay experience designed to engage players with the set's narrative focus on the titular planeswalker.
The card features artwork by Tyler Jacobson, who was tasked with depicting Garruk Wildspeaker in his transformed, darker state following the events of the Innistrad block. The design reflects the character's descent into a corrupted, predator-like persona, utilizing a distinct 'planeswalker-lite' template that was intended to be accessible to new players while maintaining thematic consistency with the set's overarching story.
