Where it came from
Gaze of Adamaro was released in 2005 as part of the Saviors of Kamigawa expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The set focused on themes of hand size and spiritual influence, drawing inspiration from Japanese mythology and folklore. This specific card represents the perspective of Adamaro, First of Desire, a legendary spirit tied to the mortal fascination with worldly possessions.
The artwork was illustrated by Luca Zontini, who contributed numerous pieces to the Kamigawa block. Zontini utilized a distinct, painterly style that emphasized the ethereal nature of the spirits found within the setting. The card was designed as a blue sorcery intended to punish opponents for holding large numbers of cards, reflecting the set's mechanical emphasis on rewarding players for maintaining a hand of seven or more cards.
