Generous Gift

Generous Gift was introduced in the 2019 Modern Horizons set, a unique expansion designed by Wizards of the Coast to inject new cards directly into the Modern format without them passing through a Standard-legal release. The card was created to provide White with a versatile, albeit costly, answer to any problematic permanent, reinforcing the color's thematic reliance on transactional removal at the expense of giving the opponent a 3/3 Elephant token.

The artwork was illustrated by Chuck Lukacs, who employed a clean, illustrative style to depict the titular gift—an ornate, oversized box—being presented to an unsuspecting recipient. The design was received by the player community as a staple of flexibility, earning a place in various Commander and Modern sideboards for its ability to neutralize threats ranging from planeswalkers to land cards, cementing its status as a foundational utility piece.
