Provenance

Where it came from

The Giant token was released in 2019 as part of the Throne of Eldraine set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. It was designed to support gameplay mechanics within the set, specifically created to enter the battlefield through cards like Beanstalk Giant. The token represents the fairy-tale aesthetic of the expansion, which drew heavy inspiration from Arthurian legend and classic European folklore.

Illustrated by artist Kev Walker, the token features the hulking, rugged silhouette of a giant suited to the high-fantasy theme of Eldraine. Walker, a long-time contributor to the game, aimed to evoke a sense of physical weight and natural power. Upon release, it was well-received by players for its clear visual language and its thematic consistency with the set's overall artistic direction.
