Provenance

Where it came from

Glint-Eye Nephilim was originally introduced in the 2006 Magic: The Gathering expansion Guildpact, representing a cycle of four-color legendary creatures. It was designed to showcase the chaotic, non-traditional color identities of the Ravnica plane, emphasizing the tension between four of the five mana colors. The card earned a notable reputation among players for its powerful combat ability, which allows it to grow in strength based on the cards discarded from a player's hand.

The 2022 release in the Dominaria United Commander set featured the artwork of Mark Zug, a long-time illustrator for the game known for his atmospheric and visceral style. By including the creature in this supplemental set, Wizards of the Coast allowed the card to reach a new generation of Commander players who appreciate its unique mechanical synergy. Zug's depiction maintains the creature's eerie, multifaceted nature, capturing the distinct visual language of the original Nephilim while fitting the card into the modern frame design of the Commander series.
