Where it came from
Glorious Anthem first appeared in the Urza's Saga expansion in 1998, designed as a staple white enchantment to provide a passive +1/+1 buff to all creatures a player controls. Its inclusion in Seventh Edition, released in 2001, marked the first time the card was printed with a modern white border as part of the game's core set rotation. This version maintained the card's role as a cornerstone of creature-based aggressive strategies, offering a simple yet potent effect that defined the mechanics of white mana for years.
The artwork for the Seventh Edition printing was provided by artist Mike Dringenberg. Dringenberg moved away from the more overtly militaristic or religious iconography found in some earlier depictions of the card, opting for a style that emphasized a celestial or ethereal reinforcement of the battlefield. The design is widely regarded for its clarity and balance, serving as a functional standard for enchantment design in the early 2000s era of the game.
