What it does

At the beginning of combat on your turn, you may exile a creature card from your graveyard. If you do, create a token that's a copy of that card, except it's a 4/4 black Zombie. It gains haste until end of turn.

Provenance

Where it came from

God-Pharaoh's Gift was introduced in the 2017 Magic: The Gathering set Hour of Devastation. It represents the ultimate manifestation of the antagonist Nicol Bolas, designed as an artifact that brings fallen creatures back from the graveyard as powerful, haste-granting zombies. The card was crafted to mechanically capture the flavor of Bolas's influence over the plane of Amonkhet, where the dead are ritually repurposed as eternal servants.

The art was illustrated by Titus Lunter, who emphasized the grand, ominous scale of the monument. Upon release, the card quickly became a centerpiece for graveyard-based synergy decks in the Standard format. Players favored it for its ability to generate significant value each turn, leading to the development of dedicated archetypes that aimed to cheat the artifact into play from the library or graveyard.
