Godless Shrine

Godless Shrine first appeared in the original Ravnica: City of Guilds set in 2005, serving as a core component of the iconic shock land cycle. These lands represent the dual-natured districts of the plane of Ravnica, with Godless Shrine specifically depicting the austere, macabre architecture of the Orzhov Syndicate. The Ravnica Remastered version, numbered 401z, features a retro frame treatment designed to evoke the aesthetic of early Magic: The Gathering sets, bridging the gap between modern card functionality and nostalgic card design.

The artwork for the original iteration of Godless Shrine was created by Rob Alexander, a long-time contributor to the game known for his atmospheric landscapes. In designing the location, Alexander aimed to capture the intersection of religious iconography and gothic decay characteristic of the Orzhov. The card is highly regarded among players for its mechanical versatility, as it provides mana flexibility for two colors while maintaining the ability to be fetched from a deck, cementing its status as a staple in various constructed formats.
