Provenance

Where it came from

Gone Missing was originally printed as part of the Shadows over Innistrad expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game, released in 2016. The card depicts the eerie, gothic horror aesthetic of the Innistrad plane, a setting inspired by classic monster tropes and mystery. Mechanically, it functions as a common-rarity blue sorcery that allows a player to manipulate the top of their library and draw a card, reflecting the investigative and often disorienting themes of the set.

The artwork for this card was created by illustrator Johann Bodin, who focused on the atmospheric dread inherent to the Innistrad narrative. His design captures the feeling of loss and confusion central to the card's theme. Within the game's secondary market structure, the card was eventually included in 'The List,' a curated group of reprinted cards that appear in Set Boosters, intended to provide players with access to older utility cards and thematic deep cuts from throughout the game's long history.
