Greater Gargadon

Greater Gargadon was originally introduced in the 2006 Time Spiral expansion, a set designed as a nostalgic celebration of Magic: The Gathering's history. Mechanically, the card was built around the suspend keyword, encouraging players to sacrifice their own permanents to accelerate the creature's arrival onto the battlefield. This design reflected the set's broader theme of temporal distortion, allowing players to manipulate the game's timeline to bring out a massive threat far earlier than typically permitted.

The art was created by Jeremy Jarvis, who sought to capture the gargantuan, ancient, and destructive nature of the beast. The illustration features the creature looming over a desolate landscape, emphasizing its role as a harbinger of ruin. Within the competitive community, the card became a cornerstone of various 'combo' decks, particularly in the Modern format, where its ability to function as a sacrifice outlet while waiting in exile provided significant strategic depth and utility.
