Where it came from
Groundswell was originally introduced in the 2010 Worldwake expansion for Magic: The Gathering, designed to capitalize on the Landfall mechanic which rewards players for playing land cards. As an instant-speed pump spell, it became a staple of the Zendikar block's aggressive green decks, reflecting the set's thematic focus on the volatile and shifting nature of the Zendikar plane.
The version included in Foundations Jumpstart serves as a functional reprint, maintaining the original intent of a low-cost combat trick that scales in power based on the player's land drops. While the card is a mechanical staple rather than a piece of high art, its inclusion in the Foundations set highlights Wizards of the Coast's ongoing commitment to providing players with accessible, evergreen tools that facilitate the core gameplay loop of the Magic: The Gathering ecosystem.
