Where it came from
Guardian Project was originally released in the Ravnica Allegiance expansion in 2019, designed as a green enchantment to support creature-heavy decks by rewarding the player with card draw whenever a nontoken creature enters the battlefield. The card is set on the plane of Ravnica, a world dominated by sprawling cityscape and complex political guilds, and was created to embody the growth-oriented philosophy of the Simic Combine, a guild focused on biological advancement and evolution.
For the Ravnica Remastered set, released in 2024, the card was reprinted featuring new retro-frame aesthetic choices to honor the game's long history. The illustration for this printing maintains the focus on the vibrant, organic aesthetic of the Simic aesthetic, emphasizing the synergy between creature spells and resource management. It has been well-regarded by players for its efficiency in Commander format decks, where it serves as a staple for green-based strategies.
