Guul Draz Specter

Guul Draz Specter was originally printed in the 2010 set Worldwake and later reprinted as part of the 2016 Conspiracy: Take the Crown expansion. The card was designed to highlight the Zendikar plane's emphasis on high-risk, high-reward gameplay, specifically through the landfall mechanic which rewards players for playing additional lands each turn. Its inclusion in the Conspiracy set, a product built for multiplayer drafting, was intended to provide players with a powerful flying creature that could pressure opponents while scaling in effectiveness as the game progressed.

The artwork for this specific printing was created by Mark Tedin, a veteran illustrator known for his long history with the game. Tedin leaned into the ethereal, predatory nature of the creature, utilizing a muted, eerie palette that reflects the swampy, dangerous atmosphere of the Guul Draz region. The design was received as a solid mid-range inclusion for black-aligned decks, praised by players for its ability to discard opponent cards while maintaining a consistent airborne threat.
