Where it came from
Halving Season is a card released in the 2024 Mystery Booster 2 set, a supplemental product designed by Wizards of the Coast for Magic: The Gathering. The card serves as a humorous, mechanical inversion of the popular Doubling Season, reflecting the set's identity as a 'playtest' or 'convention' experiment that explores unconventional design space and meta-commentary on the game's mechanics.
The card features an illustration and design philosophy consistent with the set's tongue-in-cheek nature, where creators intentionally poke fun at established game rules. Like other entries in the Mystery Booster 2 'playtest' sheet, it is intended for limited environment play and personal collections rather than sanctioned competitive formats, highlighting the design team's desire to provide players with a quirky, novelty experience.
