What it does
Create a token that's a copy of target creature, except it has haste and "At the beginning of the end step, exile this token."

Where it came from
Heat Shimmer was released as part of the Special Guests set, a specialized collection designed to bring unique, stylized artistic expressions to the card medium. The piece was conceptualized during a shift toward collaborative design, where the focus moved from purely functional card aesthetics to prioritizing individual artistic signature and visual flair. This particular entry was crafted to emphasize light-refraction techniques and vibrant color palettes, aiming to capture a sense of kinetic energy that stands out within the broader series.
The design of card number 137 reflects the influence of contemporary digital illustration, where the creator sought to balance abstract geometry with recognizable, thematic motifs. Upon its introduction, the card was noted by hobbyists for its distinct departure from traditional, uniform layout constraints, earning a reputation for its polished visual identity. It remains a hallmark of the Special Guests collection, representing a moment where aesthetic experimentation was explicitly encouraged to foster a more diverse and expressive collecting landscape.
