Provenance

Where it came from

Helldozer was originally released as part of the Ravnica: City of Guilds expansion for Magic: The Gathering in 2005. Designed as a high-mana rare creature for the Black mana color, it reflects the block's focus on guild-aligned mechanics and the gritty, urban aesthetic of the plane of Ravnica. The card was specifically crafted to punish opponents by destroying lands, embodying the ruthless and destructive nature of the Rakdos Cult.

The card’s illustration was created by artist Trevor Hairsine, who sought to capture the intimidating, mechanical, and skeletal visual language of the Rakdos guild's constructs. It was later included in 'The List', a curated collection of legacy cards that Wizards of the Coast inserts into modern Set Booster packs to provide players with access to older, iconic cards. The inclusion serves as a bridge between the game's modern era and its mid-2000s history, often appreciated by players for its nostalgic value and unique ability to disrupt mana bases.
