Hengegate Pathway // Mistgate Pathway

Hengegate Pathway and its reverse side, Mistgate Pathway, were introduced in the 2021 expansion set Kaldheim as part of a cycle of rare dual lands designed to support multicolored deck strategies. The cycle was created to offer players efficient mana-fixing in the early game by allowing them to choose which color of mana the land produces upon entry, reflecting the planar nature of the Kaldheim set which drew heavily from Norse mythology and the concept of travel between distinct realms.

The artwork for these cards was commissioned to emphasize the ethereal, shifting geography of the Kaldheim realms. The design was intended to feel functional yet atmospheric, providing a visual bridge between the lush, magical vistas of the plane. Upon release, these cards were well-received by the competitive community for their utility in various formats, becoming staples in decks that required flexible mana bases without the life-total cost associated with shock lands.
