Hengegate Pathway and its inverse, Mistgate Pathway, debuted as part of the modal double-faced card cycle in the 2021 expansion Kaldheim. Designed by Wizards of the Coast for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game, the card serves as a versatile land that allows players to choose one of two colors for their mana base depending on which side is played. This mechanic was introduced to address the fluidity required in modern deck-building, offering players strategic flexibility without the traditional drawback of a tapped land.

The visual design features artwork by Johannes Voss, who rendered the Kaldheim landscapes with a distinct focus on the ethereal atmosphere of the plane.
