Where it came from
Hero of the Games was originally introduced in the Scars of Mirrodin expansion set released in 2010. Designed for Magic: The Gathering, the card reflects the central theme of the set, which depicts the Phyrexians' invasion and corruption of the artificial plane of Mirrodin. Mechanically, the card was crafted to support white-aligned aggressive strategies, rewarding players for wide-board tactics by boosting the power of creatures during combat.
This specific printing comes from the Double Masters 2022 set, a specialized compilation released to provide players with access to powerful cards through a premium draft experience. Featuring updated artwork by illustrator Igor Kieryluk, the design maintains the character's status as a rallying figure for the Mirran resistance. The card has been well-regarded by collectors and players alike for its thematic resonance with the lore of New Phyrexia and its utility in limited-format gameplay.
