Where it came from
Hero's Resolve was released in 1997 as part of the Tempest expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Developed by Wizards of the Coast, Tempest was the first set in the Rath Cycle, designed to introduce more aggressive gameplay mechanics and cohesive set themes that followed the success of the Mirage block. The card serves as a thematic piece of the game's broader narrative, representing the fortitude of characters fighting against the Phyrexians.
The artwork for this card was created by illustrator Randy Elliott. His contribution reflects the distinct aesthetic of late-90s Magic, which often focused on heroic archetypes and high-fantasy imagery. While Hero's Resolve is a common-rarity card and not a focal point of competitive play history, it remains a recognized artifact of the Tempest era, valued by collectors for its role in establishing the visual identity of the game during its formative years.
