Hidetsugu's Second Rite

Hidetsugu's Second Rite was originally released in the 2005 Saviors of Kamigawa expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Set in the Kamigawa plane, which draws heavily from Japanese mythology and folklore, the card depicts the ogre warlord Hidetsugu. It was designed to reflect the high-risk, high-reward nature of the character, requiring an opponent to have exactly ten life points to function, thereby embodying the volatile and aggressive spirit of the ogre faction.

The card’s illustration was created by artist Christopher Moeller, who captured the intense, chaotic essence of the Kamigawa storyline through his signature dynamic style. While the card is often cited by players for its difficult activation conditions, it remains a notable piece of Kamigawa’s thematic history.
