Hired Giant

Hired Giant was released in 1999 as part of the Mercadian Masques expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. The set was inspired by the plane of Mercadia, a world defined by its complex mercantile culture and political intrigue, which served as a departure from the high-fantasy themes typical of the game at that time. Designed by Wizards of the Coast, the set introduced mechanics focusing on the cost of spells and board manipulation, placing Hired Giant within a broader mechanical framework of resource management.

The card features artwork by artist Donato Giancola, whose work is highly regarded in the fantasy genre for its classical sensibilities and technical precision.
